Responsibilities of an Entry-Level Cybersecurity Job

Security analysts are responsible for monitoring and protecting information and systems.

Security Analyst Responsibilities:

  1. Protecting computer and network systems

  2. Exercises to search for weaknesses (pen testing and ethical hacking)

  3. Installing prevention software

  4. Software and hardware development

  5. Conducting periodic security audits

Security Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Operations: Responding to detections and doing investigations

  2. Projects: Working with other teams to build new detections or improve the current detections

Analysts more focused on operations, while an engineer can do operations, they are more focused on building detection and project-focused work.
